Steamed Cabbage (Vegetables) Recipe

Cabbage is the main ingredient in this dish, aptly called steamed cabbage. Serve with rice for a vegetarian entrée or mixed with canned corned (bully) beef and served over rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 TB butter or margarine
  • 1 clove garlic chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 med. onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 med carrot cut into thin strips
  • 3 C. green cabbage shredded
  • 1 sm. bell pepper
  • 1 sprig thyme

Instructions

  • Melt butter in saucepan. Add garlic, salt, onions and black pepper and carrot. Stir and let sauté for about 5 minutes. Stir in cabbage, pepper and thyme. Stir well, cover and let simmer and additional 7 to 10 minutes.

!*Variations*
*Stir in ½ lb. cooked, flaked salt fish and serve with fried dumplings or fried green bananas to make a traditional Caribbean breakfast.
*Substitute 2 TB oil for butter and omit salt and black pepper to make this dish Ital.
