Possibly the most alcoholic cake you will ever eat. Black cake is made with a blend of wine-soaked fruits, fresh eggs, butter, brown sugar, and other natural ingredients. After baking each 9″ cake is cooled and then drizzled with a blend of port wine and premium white rum. This traditional Caribbean cake is served on several  Caribbean islands, including Jamaica, Trinidad, and Guyana.

Depending on which islander you ask you may hear this cake called “black cake”, “rum cake”, “fruit cake” or “Christmas cake” Whatever you call it this cake is likely the most alcoholic cake you will ever eat. No traditional Caribbean celebration or Christmas dinner would be complete without a Black Cake or few. Whether it’s served plain or wrapped in a layer of royal icing, this rich, dense fruit filled delicacy is guaranteed to please.

Our black cakes are made in small batches using a 5 generations old family recipe. Passed down from my late Great- Grand Aunt, Claire I first learned this recipe when I was 18 and she made a couple dozen cakes for my uncle’s wedding. Like with countless other Caribbean families black cake is a common presence at our holiday and other large family celebrations.
